Box sets can go on top because they weight less. The tighter the box around the records the more strength the pile will have. Pack the boxes tight next to each other to stabilize. If you can find boxes that are the right size so the records can be packed tight like a brick then you are lucky. (5) They have been in non-airconditioned storage now for about a year, no problems. (4) you can stack them 5 high easily keeping in mind that the higher it gets the easier it is for it to lean. (3) the weight should be on the tops of the albums which extend above the top of the box. Lots of glue but it goes fairly fast once a routine was established. I used the 75 cent home depot boxes and glued the flaps to the sides and changed the dimensions of the box by cutting out one side and moving it in a little. (2) The box should be tight around the records on all 4 sides. The stack will easily lean and/or collapse. This puts the weight on the side walls of the box. I have over 6000 in storage after moving to an apartment. Not enough is bad but too many is worse, I know. Don't ask me how I get to find and enjoy certain records. I did dig out a Rolling Stone, a Michael Jackson, etc.Īny record storage ideas appreciated. I started to going through each box recently to kick out bad ones and I really need to stack up one more box in order to have room for the task. All the carton boxes are ordered from Uline and are in like new condition so they do provide excellent shelter for my records.ĩ5% of my records are classical music records by the way. All records in the box are stored vertically. I am not sure if it will still be fine with 4. My question is has anyone done it like that and has there been any problems? I have stacked 3 boxes a pile for a few years with no problems. I tried it and it looks like the boxes are holding up nicely. Since I have many (too many) boxes of them I have to stack the boxes in order not to take up too much room in my house.Ĭurrently I stacked 3 boxes in a pile and have dozens of piles of them. My boxes are of the size of 13"x13"x13" and my records fit perfectly in them. I have a large collection of vinyl records and naturally I have to store most of them in carton boxes. This one has been the one I visited the most so my apologies if this is really not the place to ask the question. I am not sure which sub forum to post this question.
